Mauricio Pochettino States That He and Kylian Mbappe are ‘100% staying at PSG.’
Mauricio Pochettino has stated that he will remain as manager of Paris Saint-Germain, as well as star player Kylian Mbappe.
PSG is anticipated to go through a lot of changes at the end of the season, and Pochettino’s future remains uncertain after winning the French league title with ease just over a year after taking over from Thomas Tuchel at the Parc des Princes.
Following his side’s spectacular collapse in the Champions League last-16 at the hands of Real Madrid, the former Tottenham manager is under fire.
Pochettino’s future has been in serious doubt since then. PSG, on the other hand, is fighting to keep Mbappe, whose contract expires at the conclusion of the season.
Although the club is hopeful of retaining the France international’s services, they are in direct rivalry with Real Madrid, who have long admired the World Cup champion, who has 165 goals in 213 games since signing from Monaco in the summer of 2017.
Pochettino’s comments come after a reporter asked him to provide a percentage chance of him staying, with journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that he replied: ‘As of now, I’m 100 percent staying – and the same for Kylian Mbappe.’
PSG has apparently been considering replacing Pochettino with Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte. But the Italian is understood to want to quadruple his £13 million contract to relocate to France.
Pochettino and Mbappe’s futures aren’t the only ones in doubt; Neymar, another vital player, is also a possible departure.
The French club is apparently willing to unload Neymar as part of a rebuilding plan, incurring a hefty loss on the player they paid a world record cost for by putting a £76 million price tag on him.
While the striker has continued to dazzle in front of goal, scoring 98 goals in 141 games since then, he, along with Mbappe and Pochettino, has been unable to assist the team to achieve their aim of winning the Champions League.
