Mauricio Pochettino informed PSG of his desire to leave the club amid interest in his services from Tottenham and Real Madrid.

Why does Mauricio Pochettino want to leave?

Paris Saint-Germain drafted Mauricio to replace Thomas Tuchel at the Parc des Princes at a hot spot earlier in the year, and he subsequently led the club to the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions double. The Argentine still has a year left on his contract with the Ligue 1 giants, Real is eager to lure him into Santiago Bernabeu, while the Spurs have made contact with their former head coach to discuss his potential return to the club.

Mauricio Pochettino told Paris Saint-Germain officials that he would like to terminate his contract, leaving sporting director Leonardo unsure of how best to move forward. Paris Saint-Germain planned to maintain faith in his project with the Argentine until 2022, despite the team’s inability to hold onto the Ligue 1 title last season. Mauricio still has a special affection for the club, he will respect any decision they make regarding his future, even if that means continuing in the dugout for another 12 months.

Real has identified Mauricio as their number one target to replace Zidane, who stepped down from his post at the Bernabeu last week after a trophy-free 2020-21 campaign. The Spanish outfits are willing to be patient in their search for a new manager, and have also identified ex-Inter Antonio Conte tactician and Raul academy coach as potential candidates in the event of Mauricio’s refusal to work.

What does Spurs have to offer Mauricio?

Mauricio established himself among the management elite of Europe during his first period at Tottenham between 2014 and 2019, transforming the team from also-run into the top four permanent players and Champions League finalists. The team took a step back under his successor Jose Mourinho, who was fired in April amid a poor streak of results, and club chairman Daniel Levy is now looking to bring the ship into a familiar face. The Spurs are willing to offer Mauricio the stability of a long-term contract and could be brought back into the role due to his family’s close ties to London.
