Adam Zampa will take over the captaincy in the absence of injured Melbourne Stars player Glenn Maxwell. Also, Marcus Stoinis will be the vice-captain of the team.

Adam Zampa has been associated with the Stars for a long time and since then has consistently taken his game to a world-class level. Zampa, who has represented Australia 72 times at the T20 International level and 119 times at the ODI level, has been the main limited-overs spinner for his country for some time now.

“It’s been an honour to lead the Melbourne Stars in Glenn’s absence and I’m looking forward to helping this team get the best out of it.

“Our stars journey will not be complete without the BBL title and we are putting everything this season to achieve that.”I’m looking forward to playing with Joe Clarke for the first time alongside Trent Boult and Luke Wood. With Marcus’ help as vice-captain, I can’t wait to lead this team and we want to see as many of our fans as possible at the MCG on Friday, December 16.

“Zampa is the stars’ all-time leading wicket-taker with 82 runs and has a chance to play his 100th BBL game this season.

Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch said, “Glenn is definitely a big loss for us, but the inclusion of a player of Adam’s ability in the team is a testament to the strength of our team.”

“Adam has become an amazing player with the Stars, but most importantly, he is a great man and has been part of the leadership group for many years. We’re on track to break our membership record next week, so we can’t wait to see fans of more and more stars at the MCG on December 16.”
