Mesut Ozil Breaks His Silence in the Aftermath of Fenerbahce’s Roster Exclusion
Mesut Ozil, a former Arsenal player, has issued a message to Fenerbahce supporters on social media following his exclusion from their team.
The former Germany international enjoyed a productive few seasons in north London before falling down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta’s leadership and eventually left in January 2020.
The Turkish champions subsequently confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Ozil and former Watford loanee Ozan Tufan would be left out of the squad.
According to reports, this is due to a verbal disagreement with interim manager Ismail Kartal, with the aforementioned statement translating to: “Mesut Zil and Ozan Tufan of our Football A Team were left out of the team due to a decision made. It is made public.”
The former Real Madrid midfielder will be barred from training with the rest of the first squad ahead of next month’s match against Kayserispor. He has now gone to social media, tweeting a picture of a Turkish flag beside a Fenerbahce flag.
“The most important thing is Fenerbahce,” the 33-year-tweet old’s reads. Despite his recent incident, the seasoned maestro has had a solid season with the Süper Lig club, scoring nine goals and adding two assists in all competitions.
He will be hoping that the problem can be handled quickly, as his Arsenal career ended in a similar fashion when Arteta left him off of the club’s registered squad for the 2020/21 season. Ozil scored 44 goals and provided 77 assists during his stint at the Emirates Stadium.
