Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil has offered to pay Gunnersaurus wages so he can keep Mascot job at Arsenal. This after he was made redundant as part of the Covid-19 cost-cutting exercise.


Jury Quy played the role of Arsenal’s Mascot for 27 years. However, he was let got on transfer deadline day due to fans restrictions not attending to stadiums for matches.

A fundraiser page was set up for life-long Arsenal fan Jerry. But now, Ozil has stepped in with a promise to pay Gunnersaurus wages for as long as he remains at the club.

On his Instagram page, Ozil wrote, “I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous and loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years”.

“As such, I am offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player. Jerry can continue in his job that he loves so much”.

Several Arsenal fans have spoken out on the club’s decision to make the mascot redundant. The former Gunners star, Paul Merson admitting it was “sad”.

He said, “Unbelievable. All the kids, the junior Gunners, there will be 30 and 40-year-old fans who have grown up with the dinosaur. It’s disappointing. I think it’s poor by Arsenal. I really do”.

The plight of Gunnersaurus has attracted interest throughout the world with Spanish club Sevilla claiming they had signed the mascot themselves.

Also, TV personality Holly Willoughby posted on Instagram, “he was at my son Harry’s 1st birthday. He’s a hero in our house. He will never be extinct in our eyes. Bring back Gunnersaurus”.

Mesut Ozil decision comes amid Arteta’s plan to axe him from his 25-man squad for the Premier League following Thomas Partey acquisition.

The German has only one year left on his contract. However, he has frozen out in north London and is yet to play a match this season.
