Mexico missed the first two penalties and lost 4-1 in the semi-final of the men’s Olympic soccer tournament after a goalless draw after 120 minutes.

The gold medal dream is over for Mexico who will try to end the men’s Olympic soccer tournament by winning bronze on Friday night. The CONCACAF side faced Brazil in the semi-final of the campaign and played exceptionally well for 120 minutes

 

Brazil unable to score past Ochoa

Mexico’s Guillermo Ochoa was kept busy by a dominant Brazil during the first 45 minutes – including a save from a powerful Dani Alves free-kick. Mexico had a clear chance to score in the second half after a counterattack led by Luis Romo. The Cruz Azul midfielder entered the box after receiving a through ball but his shot was saved by Brazil’s goalkeeper Santos. Richarlison was a constant threat for Mexico the entire game, but he couldn’t find the back of the net in the few chances he had. After 120 minutes both teams had to settle for penalties after being unable to score a late winning goal. In the penalties, Mexico missed the first two and Dani Alves, Bruno Guimares and Reinier scored for Brazil to win 4-1. Brazil moves on to the final to face Spain and Mexico will play against Japan for the third place match on 6 August.

 

Richarlison wants to lift the Olympics trophy

Winning the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics will be special for Richarlison. The player became successful after the Copa America 2016. He was playing from the bench but did everything to help Brazilian national team. After that one tournament, European teams were interested in Richarlison. He is playing in Everton now and wants to deliver another Golden medal from the Olympics 2020. The player wants to bring the gold medal despite the tough competition.
