Mikel Arteta Believes it will be ‘amazing’ to Ericksen Back on the Pitch for Brentford against Arsenal.
Christian Eriksen’s return to Brentford is ‘excellent news for football,’ according to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who expects the Denmark international to receive a warm welcome when he makes his debut against the Gunners on Saturday.
The 30-year-old midfielder joined the Bees on a six-month loan after previously playing for Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan.
Eriksen has not played since last summer, when he suffered a heart episode while playing for Denmark versus Finland at Euro 2020.
Eriksen has been fitted with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) – a form of pacemaker – since the incident that rocked the footballing world, but he was unable to continue playing in Italy with the device.
Fans saw him for the first time last weekend in Brentford’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace, but he might make his Brentford debut against Arteta’s side.
When asked about Eriksen’s comeback, Arteta stated, “It would be fantastic [to have him back].”
‘I remember exactly where I was when it happened [when Eriksen collapsed], and the reaction that you get right afterwards, it was dreadful.’
‘It’s fantastic news, thanks to the doctors and the medical team who possibly saved his life that day, and I can’t image what it meant to his family, but I’m sure they’ll be worried, but I believe it’s fantastic news for the football industry.’
He’s someone who has done exceptionally well in this country, leaving a lasting impression when he left, and now he gets the chance to return and play.

I’m hoping for a positive response because I know what happened and where he was a few months ago. That’s something I’d like to see.
‘It’s obviously a very personal matter, but that’s how I’d respond to him.’ I can’t wait to see him on a football field again.’
Arsenal are sixth in the Premier League heading into the match against Thomas Frank’s team, and if they win their games in hand, they will be fourth, ahead of both West Ham and Manchester United.
Brentford, on the other hand, is currently 14th in the table after losing four of their previous five games.
