Mikel Arteta has urged his side to make their history after getting advice on winning the title from Arsene Wenger.

The Frenchman’s Invincibles claimed the club’s last Premier League crown 20 years ago this week at the old White Hart Lane. Now the Spaniard takes his leaders to the Tottenham Stadium on Sunday seeking a North London derby win to maintain the momentum in their title charge.

“There are moments that are very important in our history and I am sure that a lot of players know about it,” Arteta said.

“It’s about making our history now.”

Wenger won three Premier League titles – and Arteta lifted the FA Cup twice playing for him from 2011-2016. “I have spoken to him a few times,” said the current Gunners boss Arteta.

“There were certain topics about how they won it and the later stages. He used to talk about that when I was a player. It is always there in the hard drive”.

“For this time of the season, at the end it is about finding a way to win the game. And that is it. You can do it in various ways when you look at how they won the titles”.

“And how they won certain games with very very, very close margins. He always talked about that, about the fine margins. And who is going to step up on the occasion to make it happen.”

Liverpool lost at Everton on Wednesday to stay three points behind Arsenal while Manchester City closed within one point with a game in hand. Dropping any points tomorrow will allow the champions to lose a game and still retain their title.

Asked if it is now a two-horse race for the title, Arteta said: “I don’t think so. This league is tremendously demanding and there can be still a lot of turns. We know what we have to do to win this league.”
