Joe Root is currently the highest Test run-scorer among active cricketers. He is close to completing his 10,000 runs in this format. He can achieve this feat during the three-match Test series against West Indies starting on Tuesday (March 08).

He could become only the second English batsman to score 10,000 or more Test runs. Root (9,613) is the highest run-scorer among cricketers currently playing. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is currently the closest to him.

Kohli has scored 8,007 runs in 100 Tests at an average of 50.35. Steve Smith of Australia has scored 7,862 runs with an average of over 60. Kane Williamson has scored 7,272 runs in 86 matches at an average of 53.47.

Root could become only the 14th batsman to score 10,000 or more runs in Test cricket. He can become the fastest batsman to score 10,000 runs for England.

Former English captain Alastair Cook completed 10,000 runs in the 229th innings. Root has played 210 Test innings so far. West Indies legend Brian Lara (195 innings) is the fastest batsman to score 10,000 runs.

Earlier this year, Root completed his 5,000 runs in Test cricket as captain. Earlier, he had surpassed Cook (4,844) for most runs as Test captain for England. Now as a Test captain, he can even surpass Cook in terms of most centuries. Currently, both Cook and Root have scored 12 centuries each as captain.

In the West Indies, Root has scored 535 runs in six Tests at an average of 53.50. He could become the fourth English batsman after Geoffrey Boycott (1,179), Alec Stewart (1,099) and Colin Cowdrey (1,025) to score 1,000 runs in the West Indies.

In the first match of the England tour of the West Indies, Joe Root scored only 13 runs in the first innings. This is a three-match series that gives maximum 5 innings to Joe Root to achieve the 10,000 runs milestone. Substantially, as we all know, a player of his strength and talent can certainly do that.
