Player is not sure about the future

Takumi Minamino is unsure if there is a future for him in Liverpool, as he admits he doesn’t know where he will be in 2021-22, but the Japanese international remains challenged to compete with Mohamed Salah and Co for a few minutes on Merseyside. The versatile 26-year-old who holds the Premier League title has found regular opportunities difficult to come by since moving to Anfield in January 2020, with fierce competition for seats that eventually led him to join Southampton on loan. Klopp is expected to absorb Minamino back into the fold this summer before any long-term planning is drawn up, but there is no guarantee that an extended period with the Reds will be adopted.

Takumi Minamino focuses on the present

Takumi Minamino said that he focuses on the present and what he can do now and that he is a footballer, so he does not know where he will play in six months, but wants to play at a high level. He added about the challenges facing him in Liverpool by the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane that it was very difficult to get a chance in that team, but it was always a challenge for him from the very beginning, so he was not in a negative mood at all, even in training. It was just about trying to play in the matches, getting into the starting lineup, and figuring out what he can do to achieve these goals.

For now, Takumi Minamino is focused on completing the current campaign at St Mary’s as positively as possible. He chalked up two goals for the Saints, going with the four he has for Liverpool, and sees the right decision to head to the South Coast during the winter transfer window.
