Ansu Fati should take a couple of months to recover
Barcelona centre-back Oscar Mingueza has said that if Ansu Fati takes another couple of months to recover to return at 100 per cent, he should do it. In the past few days, there have been reports of Ansu Fati has suffered a setback in his recovery from a meniscus injury that has held him back since November 7 and could see him skip the rest of the 2020/21 season. “I hope he will recover as soon as possible. But if he has to spend another three or four months to recover well, then let him do it,” Mingueza told reporters.
“Let him recover well because he is very young and has many years ahead of him. That he does not want to rush or play earlier, that he is recovering well with his knee because I am sure that with what he has already shown, he will be a top player.”
Barcelona will fight until the end
Barcelona have been closely linked with a move for Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, who is a free agent in June. Still, Mingueza admits that competition is part and parcel of playing for a big club. “Barcelona is the best club in the world, and we have the best players and the best reinforcements to have a strong team with good starts and replacements,” he said. “We will fight to be able to play as many games as possible. And at the end of the season, it will be an important thing what trophies we win together.”
Such was their form in 2021 that Barcelona have cut Atletico Madrid’s lead at the top of LaLiga to just four points, having picked up 37 of the last 39 points available, and the 21-year-old is clear that putting as much pressure as possible on Los Rojiblancos should be the Blaugrana’s target after the international hiatus. “Now we are focused on qualifying for the last stages of the European Under-21 Championship with the national team, and when we return, we will continue to work and fight for what we want,” said Mingueza. “As I said, when we were 12 points behind, as long as it is mathematically possible. We will continue to fight until the end. We will fight not to lose any points and continue to put pressure on Atletico.”
