The situation
Despite the fact that the Sports Union made the renewal of Alberto Moleiro official a few days ago and even used his image to present the new training clothes, it is not entirely clear that the very young midfielder from Tenerife (18 years old, turns 19 on September 30), still at a young age, he will continue in the Gran Canaria entity. The transfer of Moleiro to Barcelona, whose negotiations have been reported, has taken on a superlative boost in recent times. In fact, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, the largest shareholder and president of Las Palmas, and Luis Helguera, its sports director, would have traveled to Catalan lands to finalize the details of this transfer. The club’s chief executive assured a few weeks ago, in a solemn way, that Moleiro would continue the coming course in Gran Canaria. It could be, but under very different conditions. In the recent renewal of Moleiro, whose new link with Las Palmas runs until 2026, a termination clause of 30 million euros was included if the club is in the Second Division and 60 if it is in the First Division. Despite this, Barcelona’s desire to take the midfielder from Tenerife, and even more so with UD in the silver category, does not cease. In any case, Las Palmas will take a significant pinch for the transfer, the Barcelona entity seeking to repeat a formula as close as possible to the one that made Pedri’s arrival at the Camp Nou possible.
The details
With Tenerife, both entities signed a round deal for both parties. Barcelona paid five million euros in 2019 for a 16-year-old boy who had not even made his debut with the Las Palmas first team. Pedri stayed on loan for a year on the Island in exchange for large future profits, which raised the cost of his sale to a figure of around 20 million euros. In 2020 he was already in Barcelona, and the rest is history. Now, with Moleiro, the same route is insisted on: an initial amount yet to be determined, more money for the objectives met in terms of performance by the footballer and a generous percentage of a future sale, which some sources put at 15% of the amount received by Barcelona.
