Royal challengers Bangalore end their season with another devastating loss at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. The game was second last in league stages, with Mumbai Indians playing to finish on the top while Royal Challengers Bangalore wanted to end their season on high.

Previous match hero for RCB Sophie Devine lost her wicket in the first over, which was entirely and could have been avoided. Banglore really never recovered from that wicket, a few runs here and there but Mumbai Indians held the momentum with ball.

Smriti Mandhana scored 25 off 25 balls, for a couple of overs, she looked in fine touch and as usual spinners had better of her throughout the tournament so this time, it was Amelia Kerr who dismissed RCB captain.

There was a small partnership between Heather Knight and Elyse Perry but it wasn’t a flourishing one. Knight and Ahuja both added 12 runs each to the total with a strike rate of below 100.

Perry struggled for her shot making throughout the innings, she cracked a few but they went straight to the fielders. It appeared that it wasn’t her day.

Richa Ghosh (29 off 13 balls) was superb with the bat, playing an innings that allowed Banglore to go above 120 but they could only manage 126 on board. Anything around 145 would have given their bowlers a chance.

The match truly belonged to Amelia Kerr who took three wickets before playing a handy knock of 27 balls 31 runs to safely guide Mumbai Indians home after they were 4 for 72.

It wasn’t RCB’s day for many a reasons. First they struggled to be consistent with the bat, then when they came to bowl, Sophie Devine conceded 17 runs in her first over.

Megan Schutt bowled well but unfortunately there weren’t enough runs on board for her to defend. Royal Challengers Bangalore will like forget this season and prepare themselves with more better to compete in the next season.

Mumbai Indians have now first position in the points table but will they be able to maintain it, can’t be said they will if Delhi Capitals gets better of UP Warriorz. Both teams will come face to face at Brabourne Stadium for the last league match of WPL 2023.
