Bosnia and Herzegovina center-back Anel Ahmedhodzic has made an impression in Sweden and attracts fans from England and Italy.
Who is interested in Anel Ahmedhodzic?
Serie A rivals Napoli and Atalanta are ready to fight for the signature of Malmo defender Anel Ahmedhodzic with also interested Premier League clubs. The 22-year-old international center-back of Bosnia and Herzegovina – who was born and raised in Sweden – impressed Malmo and was named both the Allsvenskan’s best defender and best young player last season. Anel Ahmedhodzic is now ready to join the big European league and is attracting interest from England and Italy.
Atalanta has been on the trail of the defender – who has a Swedish mother and a Bosnian father – since January, but Napoli has shown particular interest in recent weeks. Interest in Anel Ahmedhodzic has intensified following his impressive performances for Bosnia and Herzegovina in their 2022 World Cup qualifier at home in France in March. The champions of 2018 won the game 1-0, but Anel Ahmedhodzic was widely praised for his work, keeping Mbappe very quiet.
Napoli sees Anel Ahmedhodzic as a potential replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly, a long-term target for Man Utd and others, and they also saw defender Nikola Maksimovic leave after his contract expired. Milan also showed interest and contacted Anel Ahmedhodzic’s agent Markus Rosenberg, but the attempts of Napoli and Atalanta to sign him at this stage are more specific. Malmo are demanding € 8 million for Anel Ahmedhodzic, while Napoli is currently offering over € 5 million.
No firm proposals have been received yet
A couple of unnamed Premier League clubs have made contact with Anel Ahmedhodzic, but no firm proposals have been made yet. Anel Ahmedhodzic has some English football experience, spending three years at Nottingham Forest between 2016 and 2019 – however he only made one appearance in the league, the Championship clash with Newcastle in 2017.
