Nat Phillips will spend the remainder of the season with the Championship-hopfuls promotion and Liverpool will make a £1.5m bank charge.
Nat Phillips joined Bournemouth
The 24-year-old joined Bournemouth on loan until the end of the season. The English footballer completed his move to Championship promotion hopfuls on deadline day, aiming to secure regular first team football. The Reds will secure a £1.5m loan fee with an additional £250k if the Cherries secure a promotion to PL.
The former Bolton defender enjoyed a breakout campaign at Anfield last season. With the Reds in the grip of a defensive injury crisis, Nat stepped up to play 20 games in all competitions, helping the Reds bounce back from a mid-season slump to finish third in the PL and secure Champions League qualification.
But the return of Gomez, Matip and Van Dijk, plus the signing of Konate, pushed Phillips down in a pecking order. As such, he only made three appearances this season, only one of which was a start. It happened against Milan at the San Siro in December, but he suffered a fractured cheekbone in that game that kept him out of action for over a month.
The Reds insisted that Phillips would not be allowed to go on loan this month and effectively rebuffed the approaches of the PL clubs at Leicester and Watford, but they withdrew on deadline day and Nat will now be looking to impress on the South Coast.
Nat Phillips joins the team with more to play with. Parker’s side are third in the Championship but have the game in hand in second place Blackburn and are just six points behind leaders Fulham. They will hope to secure automatic promotion to the PL by May.
How about others?
Bournemouth are also exploring the possibility of signing another Reds player, Williams, on loan until 2300 GMT. Neco Williams is another looking for more regular playing time and the Reds will be ready to sanction a deal. As of Monday’s lunch break, however, there had been no progress on that deal, nor on the Reds’ £5m bid for the Carvalho teenager.
