Nemanja Matic is taking on a new challenge in Italy after spending the last eight and a half years in English football.

A little about the topic

The Serbian footballer reunited with Mourinho for the third time in his career, with the player contacting Roma on a free transfer after leaving the Red Devils. Nemanja Matic is poised to take on a new challenge in Italy after bringing a long spell in English football to an end. The Serbian midfielder moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2017 but, despite having an extension option in his Manchester United deal, believes it’s time to spread his wings again and open a new chapter in Serie A.

Contract Details

Nemanja is nearing the end of his distinguished playing career and as such has only been linked to an initial one-year deal at Roma. However, this deal reportedly includes a 12-month extension option if all parties agree to renew their association in the summer of 2023. Nemanja Matic should earn 6 million euros a year at Stadio Olimpico.

What did Nemanja Matic say?

Speaking after the announcement of his move, the Serbian player said he was pleased and honored to join this club and can’t wait to start the new season with his teammates. According to Nemanja Matic, Roma is a big club, with amazing fans and head coach José Mourinho, who is well known to everyone – making the decision to come here is very straightforward. Matic says he hopes that by working together they can achieve some great things.

Why does Jose need Nemanja Matic so much?

Nemanja first signed with the Blues in 2009 but was returned to Stamford Bridge Jose in January 2014 when a £40 million deal was agreed with Benfica. The pair lay in wait for PL title success in their one full season together as Chelsea returned to the English Football Summit in 2014-15. Nemanja will run two more campaigns in west London before a familiar Portuguese coach arrives in 2017.

The Serbian helped the Red Devils reach the FA Cup final in 2018, only to be beaten 1-0 by the Blues. Jose was released from his duties at Old Trafford in December of that year, but the Serbian stayed on to take his Man Utd total to 189. Matic will now look to pursue more major silverware under a proven winner, with Roma still basking in the glow of their 2021-22 success in the inaugural Europa League.
