The World Cup qualifier 2023 saw an exciting match yesterday as first the Netherlands tied the match against the West Indies and then registered an epic win in the super over. West Indies scored 374 runs while batting first, and in return, the Netherlands also reached the same score. Their team needed one run on the last ball, and Van Beek was caught by Holder in an attempt to score that one run.
Van Beek’s fiery play led the team to historic win
After scoring 28 runs off 14 balls in the regular innings, Van Beek smashed 30 runs with his bat in the super over bowled by Jason Holder, and the West Indies in return could make only 8 runs with a loss of two wickets. This epic victory gave them two valuable points, and they finished second in group A.
Earlier, Holder took a brilliant catch to dismiss Van Beek, which led to a tie, but in the Super Over, the all-rounder dismissed two West Indies batsmen, Johson Charles and Romario Shepherd, on two consecutive balls and led the team to a stunning victory with a fiery performance by both bat and ball. Although the West Indies had a good start with the bat, they scored 374 runs, including amazing performances by Nicolas Pooran, Brandon King, and Johnson Charles.
West Indies openers made a good start
Pooran made 104 runs, Brandon scored 76, and Charles scored 54, which helped their team reach a gigantic total. The Netherlands bowler dismissed Sharmah Brooks and King in consecutive overs and stopped Shai Hope from scoring a half century, but Pooran was unstoppable as he scored his second century and remained not out. The West Indies managed to score 61 runs in the last five overs.
Netherlands led the match to very end
