Neto is delighted to see Coutinho at Barcelona
Neto has revealed his happiness after seeing “talented” Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho return to Barcelona, as well as confidence that Antoine Griezmann will silence his doubters. Coutinho spent his final term on loan at Bayern Munich and won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and the Champions League treble – the latest triumph including a stellar one rolled off the bench in 8-2 beating Barca in the quarter-finals. While Bayern chose not to make a move permanent, it still seemed like Coutinho’s future lay outside the Camp Nou until the arrival of Ronald Koeman as head coach signaled a new lease of life at Barça. Coutinho has two assists, and a goal and an 88.96 percent pass success rate from four LaLiga games this season. And compatriot Neto is delighted to see him again doing what he does best at Barcelona.
Neto has backed Antoine Griezmann from critics.
“I am happy that a friend like Coutinho is back in the squad, with his quality,” the Spanish goalkeeper said. “Philippe has shown his quality and that he is delighted to be back at the club. The Champions League title he won at Bayern will give him a lot of security and give us a lot”. Conversely, Griezmann suffered a slow start to the campaign, failing to score, help or even create a chance for a teammate from four more appearances. Much was expected of Griezmann when he arrived from Atletico Madrid ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, but the winner of the World Cup in France was battling for top form at Camp Nou. Neto, however, offered his support to his under-fire teammate.
“I see Griezmann very well, and as always, we know what this profession is. Sometimes everything turns out better, while others do worse,” he added. “But I see him happy and working in training. So I’m sure he will continue to provide us with as many things as he did before”. It was reported this week that Barça had signed a Burofax against a 30 percent pay cut. And only three players did not write their names on the document. Barça announced large revenue losses, mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic. But Neto was reluctant to go into too much detail on the matter. “On the issue of salaries, I think it would be incoherent to answer now,” he said.
“The whole squad and I are focused on the game. So with being a personal and individual question, everyone has their own opinion. The important thing now is to play, and we are focused on getting a positive result.”
