USMNT star Christian is part of those plans, with a 22-year-old eagerness to leave the niggling knocks behind and become the mascot presence for the Premier League heavyweights.
Christian Pulisic is good enough
When asked if Christian Pulisic is capable of hitting those heights, former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin said he didn’t think he had much to prove, but there was a lot of competition to get into that top three.
Obviously there is Kai Havertz, who Pat believes is a solid starter, so there are two other positions to fight for. There is Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Timo Werner, who was arguably the best player in the preseason. Mason Mount is basically Chelsea’s Player of the Year, Tammy Abraham, and that’s before you get any new potential signatures.
It’s incredibly easy to get a game in these positions, but they won’t all start and play 90 minutes every game, they will be used tactically quite a lot. Christian Pulisic doesn’t want that; he wants to be a ‘go-to’ player and that is what he must try to do to make that happen. He’s certainly good enough to do it and play every game, but his numbers need to grow.
If he does and continues to do so throughout the season, then he will play every week, but the club and fans already love him. According to Pat Nevin, many of these players are young, a group that will be miles better in two or three years than they are now, and they have already won the Champions League, which is scary to think about.
Nevin hopes Pulisic plays every game because he is a great footballer and his match intelligence is phenomenal. Nevin wouldn’t compare it to Hazard, but it has similar attributes.
