New owners of the team are ready to start work. Keep in mind that the team has a new general manager and they are going to transform the whole structure of the club.

New era just started

The new era at Newcastle United officially began on Thursday October 7, 2021, yet with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund now in charge of the Tyneside club, just what are their immediate plans? Mike Ashley oversaw a 14-year period of self-inflicted decline as he took Newcastle United from being one of the bigger clubs in English football to mere relegation fodder.

It says a lot that in all the years he was in charge at the club, he finished above 10th place on just one occasion, and even that could be described as a fluke. There will be no such tolerance of abject failure and apathy towards development under the Saudi regime though, and you can expect Newcastle United to be instantly active in the transfer market too.

Manager wants to build bridge between fans and club

Ashley treated Newcastle United fans with contempt, as did a lot of the people he employed at the club, even to the degree that you believed he merely hired them to aggravate fans further. St. James’ Park has been a toxic environment bereft of hope in the last decade and the Saudi PIF needs to address that right away.

The intention from the new owners is to make Newcastle United once again a place of pride for fans, and this will come with a much-needed investment into modernising the stadium itself, whilst club legends such as Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer, who were persona-non-grata due to their criticism of the Ashley regime, will be welcomed back to the club in an official capacity. Newcastle fans will want to be treated with respect and the PIF’s early moves have to set the tone that this will be the case.
