Reportedly, Newcastle is confident of signing Arsenal defender Keiran Tierney as Eddie Howe eyes a new left-back this summer.

Kieran Tierney has found himself out of favour at the Emirates this season with Oleksandr Zinchenko firmly ahead of him in the pecking order. The success of Zinchenko and Arsenal’s title charge have resulted in manager Mikel Arteta regularly naming an unchanged side.

Tierney has started only five league matches this season and was an unused sub in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Southampton.

The Scotsman has only made 118 appearances since joining the club from Celtic in 2019. Apparently, he struggled with a number of injuies and he could be on the move at the end of the season.

According to reports, Newcastle are set to make a £30million bid to sign Kieran Tierney. Sources also close to the player believe a move up north is increasingly likely.

Tierney could ask to move on, with Champions League football a realistic possibility for Newcastle next season.

Dan Burn has been used as a left-back regularly for the Magpies this term after demoting Matt Targett but he came under criticism from supporters following last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Aston Villa.

However, Howe defended the former Brighton man, insisting his versatility is important to the team.

‘Dan Burn is an incredible player and incredible person. I think what he gives you, you can’t measure’, Howe said recently.

‘He’s similar to Sean Longstaff. They have similar types of qualities they bring the team.

‘Sometimes it is not measurable what those type of players give you. We really value Dan highly in whatever position he plays. His versatility is important as well.’

Tierney is thought to be open to a move away from the  Emirates in order to enjoy regular top-flight minutes, though, and Arsenal would not stand in his way if they can find a suitable replacement.

Juventus is lso thought to be monitoring developments surrounding the future of Tierney.
