Reportedly, Newcastle has joined Spurs and Juve in the race to sign PSG striker Mauro Icardi as they look to flex their new financial strength.

Newcastle now has the financial muscle as they are under Saudi ownership after a £ 305m deal was agreed with Mike Ashley and signed off by the Premier League on Thursday. Previously, it was reported that financial analysts have calculated that the club will be able to spend well over £ 200m strengthening their squad in the next three years without breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

And now, it has been reported that the Magpies are eyeing up a potential move for the 28-year-old Mauro Icardi, a PSG striker. Newcastle though could face fierce competition for the Argentine forward with Tottenham and Juventus also said to be interested.

Initially, Icardi joined PSG in 2019 on loan after scoring 124 goals in 219 appearances for Serie A giants Inter Milan.

In the French capital, he has faced competition for places with the likes of Neymar, Mbappe and Messi and even Edinson Cavani before he left for Manchester United.

Despite not getting as much game time, Icardi has scored 36 goals in 72 appearances. And so, it is expected Newcastle will be looking to strengthen the options they possess in the striker’s position as they currently have Callum Wilson, Joelinton, and Dwight Gayle.

Meanwhile, Spurs were able to keep Harry Kane in the summer though the club could be in search of a striker in the future if the England captain persists with his intentions to leave.

As for Juventus, they lost their main goal source in Cristiano Ronaldo after his emotional return to Manchester United. Currently, the Bianconeri have Alvaro Morata, Kaio Jorge and Moise Kean as their striker options.

With this competition at hand, regardless, Newcastle will be a force to be reckoned with in the transfer market going forward.
