The Brazilian was ruled out for three games, one of them suspended after receiving their marching orders in the recent French league.

Neymar handed a three-match ban

Forward Paris Saint-Germain Neymar was handed a three-match ban for his red card and subsequent skirmish with Lille’s Djalo on Saturday. The Brazilian was shown a second yellow for wiggling Tiago towards the end of the match before the duo had to disperse in the tunnel at the Parc des Princes after Lille’s 1-0 win.

The typical penalty for two yellow cards in one game is a one-match suspension, but Ligue 1 decided that Neymar’s antics justified further play, which would be monitored.

Meeting on April 7, 2021, the LFP Disciplinary Commission made the following decisions that three matches are ineligible including a suspended match for Neymar Jr. (PSG) said in a statement. Tiago was also hit with a one-match ban.

How and what happened?

With Paris Saint-Germain lagging behind in the final couple of minutes, Tiago and Neymar slid behind the ball near the touchline before being tied up. In his rush to get the ball, Neymar pushed Tiago to the floor and was shown a second yellow card by referee Benoit Bastien, while Lille was also dismissed for obscene rarity.

The clash between the couple continued after the final whistle, as they had to be separated in the tunnel. Lille’s 1-0 win was a huge statement in the title race, as they moved the clear Ligue 1 standings ahead of Paris Saint-Germain by three points, with Lyon and Monaco still four and five points back in the hunt, respectively.

Neymar will miss important games

The Brazilian star will miss Paris Saint-Germain’s trip to Strasbourg on Saturday, as well as a home match against Saint-Etienne on 18 April. Paris Saint-Germain will have just five Ligue 1 matches left when Neymar can return to their April 24 match against Metz.
