There’s another newly appointed captain in white ball cricket. We’re talking about Nicholas Pooran. He’s taken over the captaincy from Kieran Pollard. What about Nicholas Pooran’s personality stands out to you remotely?
“I think obviously his shot making ability is something that is very eye catching as a batter. I don’t know him personally very well, though. He looks like somebody who is a very emotional person, somebody who gets very pumped up. And at times in captaincy, it is very helpful at times not. So it’s going to be very interesting to see how he takes West Indies cricket forward.
And Kieron Pollard has retired. He has been a trailblazer in T 20 cricket. What do you think makes him such a fierce opponent?
I think not only is powering, personality, but he’s somebody who’s played the cricket very hard, willing to take on any situation, any challenge on any bowler. And he’s been very successful as a T20 batsman in many leagues over a period of time. And he’s tried his best with best in his cricket, but didn’t exactly go according to plan, but must give him credit for the effort that he has put in.

In five months to go for the next T 20 World Cup to be played in Australia. What, according to you, should be Pooran’s first order of business after taking charge?
I think, as I said, when you take it up the Captainy, so far he’s been doing Captaincy. He’s done a few games, and that’s only come because Pollard wasn’t available during those series or those specific matches. But now he’s a full time white ball captain. It’s going to be important that he has a vision along with the coach and investing. There are a lot of issues that did happen. He’s got to find a way to obviously understand those issues and figure out a way to sort them out and then move forward with the current team that he’s got.
And given that now he’s the white born captain, you think he should be keeping wickets in T20s?
Absolutely he is somebody who can be very good with his angles and his ability to understand what the bowler and what the batsman is doing on a certain day if he’s a wicket keeper, and I would definitely encourage him to keep wickets.
