Man Utd should drop interest in Declan Rice and do whatever it takes to sign Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Nicky Butt said.

This is the winning club

The Red Devils are said to be among the top candidates for West Ham’s Declan Rice. Former United midfielder Nicky Butt, however, believes they already have ample midfield options. Nicky Butt, who served as head of United’s first team before leaving the club in March, said next season should be about getting some silverware back into that trophy cabinet for him. It’s about getting the right players that will allow you to challenge for trophies. It’s a winning club, so they can’t go that long without silverware. Nicky thinks Manchester United is solid enough in midfield. Nicky says he hears about Rice all the time, but is he better than Scott McTominay? Nicky isn’t sure; he thinks that with Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba and obviously Bruno Fernandes, they are in a good spot in the middle of the park.

What else did Nicky Butt say?

Nicky Butt believes this is where United needs to prioritize this summer. They have been linked to Raphael Varane, with recent reports that Madrid turned down an offer from Old Trafford, and Nicky Butt sees the 28-year-old as the perfect fit to get into the back four alongside Harry Maguire. Butt added that the biggest thing to do for him at Man Utd this summer is being a center-back; need a partner for Harry Maguire. Everyone is talking about Raphael Varane. Butt realizes that he’s a little older than most people would like, but you just have to go back to the Teddy Sheringham days. Nicky thinks they bought him when he was 32 and they went and won trill with him. If Raphael Varane has the opportunity, he would go after him.
