Sri Lanka Announces Squad for Upcoming ODI Series Against India

Sri Lanka has named opening batter Nishan Madushka in their 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India. This will be Madushka’s maiden ODI call-up after making his international debut for the Test side in April 2023. The 24-year-old has shown promise in his red-ball career, boasting an average of 42 from eight games.

Madushka made headlines last year when he became one of the elite cricketers to convert his first Test century into a double century during the series against Ireland. Despite his impressive performances, Madushka is expected to serve as a back-up opener, with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis likely to lead the batting order.

Changes and Additions to the Squad

Charith Asalanka will lead the side, taking over the captaincy from his promotion in the shortest format. The squad also sees the return of pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who missed the previous series against Bangladesh due to fitness issues. However, Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera remain sidelined due to injuries, while Pramod Madushan has been dropped.

Asitha Fernando, who impressed in the recent season of the Lanka Premier League, is expected to play a key role in shouldering the new-ball duties alongside Dilshan Madushanka. The squad is a mix of experienced players and promising talents, aiming to put up a strong performance against India.
