Olivier Giroud and Thiago Silva have renewed contracts with Chelsea
The Blues ensured the veteran defender and striker for 2021-22 will stay on Stamford Bridge.
Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud will stay in Chelsea
They will remain at Chelsea for the 2021-22 Premier League season after newly dedicated Champions League winners have confirmed they have activated a clause in their contracts. Veteran Brazilian Thiago Silva arrived from Paris Saint-Germain on a free shuttle last summer and impressed throughout his first season in English football, making 34 appearances in all competitions. Olivier Giroud, 34, will also be in Chelsea until 2022 after the club confirmed on Friday that it had exercised an option on the French striker back in April.
What did Granovskaia say about Silva and Giroud?
The director of Chelsea Marina Granovskaia told the club site that when they brought Thiago Silva in last summer, they knew they were adding a world-class player to the roster. Thiago Silva has duly shown his tremendous quality to everyone at Chelsea throughout this season and has had a huge impact on and off the pitch for them. According to Granovskaia, they said when he signed that they hope Thiago Silva will add new trophies to his impressive list of awards, and Silva has done just that with their Champions League success this weekend. Now they hope the Brazilian will continue the same way next year.
Of Olivier Giroud, Marina Granovskaia said that Giroud has been such a vital part of so many big moments for this club, from his contribution to their 2018 FA Cup win to 11 goals scored on the way to winning the 2019 Europa League. Olivier has continued to score meaningful goals and they will never forget his efforts against Atlético Madrid on his way to winning the Champions League this season. With so much to play for, there was only one decision they could make when they took advantage of the option to renew his contract back in April.
