Ollie Robinson, the English cricketer, remains unperturbed despite widespread criticism of his behavior during the opening Test of the Ashes against Australia.

After dismissing Usman Khawaja, who had scored an impressive 141 runs for the tourists, Robinson directed a verbally aggressive outburst at Khawaja as he made his way back to the dressing room.

Despite the backlash, Robinson stated, “I don’t really care how it’s perceived, to be honest. It’s the Ashes, professional sport. If you can’t handle that, what can you handle?” He emphasized the significance of the wicket and his commitment to providing the captivating drama associated with the series.

However, cricket commentators and analysts expressed their disappointment with Robinson’s conduct. When Robinson dismissed Khawaja on 141 after hard toil, he was seen saying “F*** off*, F***ing p**ck.

Others pointed out that the English media highlighted past instances of Australian players displaying similar behavior in an attempt to provide context and perspective. This is not an ideal send off to a player who has already scored 141 runs.

Robinson, who claimed two more wickets, Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins, contributing to Australia’s total dismissal for 386, defended his actions by referring to the intense nature of the Ashes and the passion it evokes.

He acknowledged that such exchanges can occur in the heat of the moment, citing examples of Australian players, including Ricky Ponting, engaging in similar behavior against England.

When asked about the potential consequences of breaching the ICC’s Code of Conduct, Robinson chose not to comment. Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey played down the incident, stating that Usman Khawaja had not expressed any concerns and emphasizing that hostility is part of the Ashes experience.
