Ousmane Dembele – a genius type player
Ousmane Dembele is considered a “genius type player” by Barcelona’s presidential candidate Joan Laporta, a FIFA World Cup winner enjoying a welcome return in 2020-21. The France international found a little challenging move at Camp Nou on the back of a $ 128 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017. However, a spark has been rediscovered by the 23-year-old this season, with a standing secured as an essential part of Ronald Koeman’s plans. “I’m a huge fan of Dembele,” Laporta told reporters, who are looking for a second time to take control of Barça boardroom. “He is in exciting form, and mentally he is also powerful. These are players that I will try and make sure that Barça have for many years.”
Joan Laporta always come out in favour of Dembele
“I have always come out in favour of Ousmane. He deserves special treatment because these genius types of players you have to look after them. I enjoy watching Dembele doing so well”. The Frenchman has taken in 26 appearances in all competitions this season, having to register six goals and four assists along the way. He has now reached a century of outings in the Blaugrana during his time in Catalonia and remains on top of his most productive campaign to date. Dembele admitted that he has struggled at Barça since making a high-profile switch from Dortmund, which saw him snapped up by LaLiga giants with the funds raised from a record-breaking sale Neymar to PSG.
He said: “When I came here I was fragile. Even when I started professionally at Stade Rennais and Borussia Dortmund, I was very weak. But I have come a long way at Barcelona with physical coaches. My way of training, my way of preparing for matches, everything has changed. The years go by, and I’m growing up, so it’s okay for me to change a little. I’m more comfortable, and I feel good here in Barcelona and my own life”. Dembele wants to help Koeman’s side to significant silverware in 2021, with Barça’s next outing set to see them host PSG in the first leg of a heavyweight Champions League last-16 match.
