The Uruguayan’s athletic pace and prowess will be a huge asset for the Reds, says England’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who admitted he wouldn’t recommend challenging the 23-year-old for a race.

What did Alex say about Darwin Nunez?

Darwin Nunez arrived from Benfica on a £64m deal and is the stellar capture of Klopp’s summer at Anfield. Already, Darwin is drawing comparisons to fellow former Reds favorite Suarez, with Alex saying he will be critical to Liverpool’s prospects this term.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain told the club’s official website that Darwin Nunez, they played against and saw him first hand and he thinks everything they saw in those games reminded him a little of Diaz when they played against him when he was in the port.

According to Oxlade-Chamberlain, he’s the kind of player they know what they’re going to get from – athleticism, speed, strength, power – and it was the same with him. Alex remembers having to chase Luis into Anfield at one point and had him put him in fifth gear and then try to find sixth to keep up with him!

The Englishman says they kind of remember these things and when he walked in the door what was the first thing Alex remembered – don’t try to race him if Alex expects to win! Oxlade-Chamberlain thinks Darwin Nunez would be the same. He thinks Virgil said first hand and Ibou said how fast and strong he was.

Oxlade-Chamberlain thinks he had that kind of confidence and Alex thinks that as a striker, as a forward, you kind of have to have that kind of confidence to go and do good things and lead the team from there.

What will happen next?

The capture of the Uruguayan marks the Reds’ flagship summer deal – aside from confirmation that Salah will remain on Merseyside after writing an extension in the wake of Mane’s move to Bayern Munich. But he will face a difficult challenge in getting the Reds to the line against their biggest rivals, Man City, after recruiting the latter himself, including linebacker Kalvin Phillips and forward Haaland.

Jurgen Klopp’s people, however, will have full faith that their new purchase can justify its price tag – and having come agonizingly close to a second Champions League crown under the German deadline, the Reds will be ready to fire ahead this season yet again.
