The team selection includes the return of left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, who is set to make a comeback after recovering from a knee injury. Additionally, uncapped batter Mohammad Huraira and all-rounder Aamir Jamal have been included in the squad.
Shahid Afridi Returns To The Team
Shaheen Afridi’s return is highly anticipated as he aims to reach a significant milestone in his Test career. The talented bowler is just one wicket away from reaching a century of Test wickets.
Since his debut in December 2018, no other Pakistani bowler has taken more wickets than him. With an impressive average of 24.86 and an economy rate of 3.04, Shaheen Afridi has proven to be a valuable asset for the team.
However, Shaheen’s Test career has been marred by injuries. He last played in the longest format in July 2022 before sustaining a knee injury during a Test against Sri Lanka.
The injury recurred during the Men’s T20 World Cup final last year, further prolonging his absence from Test cricket. His return to the squad signifies his recovery and readiness to contribute to the team’s success.
Morne Morkel Joins Pakistan As Bowling Coach
In addition to the squad announcement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as the bowling coach of the men’s national cricket team.
Morkel will join the team on a six-month contract, providing his expertise and guidance to the bowlers. Unfortunately, Morkel was unable to be a part of the team for the recent series against New Zealand due to his commitments in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
As the Pakistani squad prepares for the series in Sri Lanka, Morne Morkel’s inclusion as the bowling coach is expected to enhance the team’s bowling unit. His vast experience and knowledge of the game will undoubtedly benefit the players, providing them with valuable insights and strategies.
