The 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup will be played in India from October 5 to November 3. This will be the fourth time that this tournament will be played in India. It will also be the first time that the country will host the tournament solely, as they have co-hosted the World Cup with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan in the past. The World Cup 2023 has been mired in controversy as Pakistan’s participation in the tournament has been questioned. Speculation was rife whether Pakistan would refuse to travel to India after the latter refused to travel to their country during the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup to play matches due to security reasons.

The latest evolution reveals that Pakistan is asking for a change of venues for two matches in the 2023 World Cup. The official schedule is not out yet, but it is known that Pakistan is going to face India in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Besides this, they are also set to face Australia and Afghanistan in Chennai and Bengaluru, respectively. According to a report, the Pakistan Cricket Board is soon going to ask for the two matches to be swapped. The officials feel that India has deliberately proposed matches at venues where the Pakistan team may face challenges related to pitch conditions, practice facilities, and travel arrangements.

Before the World Cup, the most anticipated tournament, the Asia Cup, will begin on August 31. Sri Lanka and Pakistan will co-host this edition of the Asia Cup. A total of six teams from Asia—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal—will be participating in the tournament. The hybrid model of two countries hosting the tournament came into play when BCCI secretary and ACC president Jay Shah stated that India would not travel to Pakistan for the tournament because of ongoing political tensions between the two countries.
