Pakistan fell short by 134 runs in the first innings on the third day of the third and final Test against Australia.

After tea, in an incredible session, Pakistan lost 7 wickets within 41 runs. The last 4 wickets fell without adding a single run. Cummins took 5 for 56 and Starc took 4 for 36. Australia scored 11 runs for no loss at the end of the third day’s play. Usman Khawaja is playing 7 and David Warner is scoring 4 runs.

How brutal and menacing test bowling can be, proves an unbelievable performance delivered by two Aussie quicks. Mitchell Starc became a haunting dream for Pakistan when he started to launch his inswinging stump hitting deliveries.

While trying to make a lead over Australia’s 391 in the first innings, Pakistan scored 268 runs. In-form batsmen Abdullah Shafiq (81) and experienced Azhar Ali (78) scored yesterday’s scores to take Pakistan to 170 for one as they went past 90 for one.

Australia had no success in the first session. Azhar’s laborious and tiring innings, which included 7 fours and a six, came to an end on a brilliant return catch from captain Pat Cummins

Off-spinner Nathan Lyon had to wait till the 21st over for the first wicket. He sent Shafiq (81) to the pavilion. Shafiq hit 11 fours in his innings of 228 balls. He shared a 150-run partnership with Azhar Aki. Azhar, playing for the first time in his hometown Lahore, became the fifth Pakistani batsman to complete 7000 runs in Test cricket.

After tea, Pakistan lost the last six wickets within 40 balls. Starc, who bowled only two overs with the new ball, took key wickets of Fawad Alam (13) and Mohammad Rizwan (1) in the last session.

The tail batsmen of Pakistan were petrified against the deadly show instrument by Cummins and Starc. Captain Babar Azam scored 67 runs in 131 balls. Cummins sent Sajid Khan, Noman Ali and Hasan Ali to the pavilion within two overs. In the following overs, Starc got Babar out leg before and clean bowled 11th number batsman Naseem Shah.
