Pat Cummins has decided to put his country first in a surprise sacrifice, which will cost him more than $1 million.

The 29-year-old fast bowler, who captains Australia’s ODI and Test teams, has announced on social media that he will not take part in next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) due to workload concerns.।Cummins was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for USD 1.34 million this year but has decided to give up his lucrative contract for the upcoming season of India’s domestic T20 tournament.

The decision comes after he was promoted to captain Australia’s ODI team with the World Cup in India later next year. Australia are scheduled to play a four-Test series in India next February and March before the IPL, while england could have a five-Test Ashes series followed by the World Test Championship final.

A similar move has been taken by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who has long preferred his fitness for Australia over IPL funds. Citing these reasons, the pair have rarely played even in the Big Bash League at home.

“I have made the difficult decision to stay out of the IPL next year. “The international schedule is full of Tests and ODIs for the next 12 months, so will rest a bit ahead of the Ashes series and the World Cup.” ‘Pat Cummins’ workload was a talking point before he was handed the captaincy of both the Test and ODI teams and he is still playing all three formats for Australia. “Thank you so much @KKRiders for their understanding.

Such a fantastic team of players and staff and I hope I can get back there,” Cummins said on Twitter with a pair of purple loving heart emojis. Cricket fans took to social media to react to Cummins’ news, with many praising him for his “sensible” decision to focus on his international career for Australia.

Pat Cummins’ decision comes on the eve of the ODI series against England starting on Thursday, with many players in the squad from sunday night’s T20 World Cup final win over Pakistan.

The Australian captain will lead his side in both the ODI series and the upcoming nine-Test series after the selectors decided not to field the pacer for the ODIs.

Australia’s three-match ODI series against England ends just a week before the first Test against the West Indies in Perth. The three red-ball matches against South Africa will be held in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, while India will host a four-Test series in February.
