Paul Pogba’s New Documentary Reveals how he Rejected Man United’s £300,000-per-week Contract
According to a new documentary on the player, Paul Pogba claimed Manchester United gave him “nothing” after making him two contract offers for £300,000 per week.
According to the “Pogmentary,” which was published on Friday, Old Trafford officials twice made him fresh offers that were higher than the £290,000-a-week conditions that made him one of the highest-paid players in the world.
But as shown in a teaser of the program, Pogba reportedly told his late agent Mino Raiola about the second approach in July by calling it “nothing” while driving in his Rolls-Royce.
Pogba, who was obviously incensed, asked, “How can you tell a guy you definitely want him and offer him nothing?” Never seen that before.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the manager of United at the time, had pledged to “create the club around” the gifted midfielder when he was awarded a new three-year deal in July 2021.
The team made many attempts to keep him at Old Trafford but has long since accepted the possibility of his departure. When his deal with Manchester United expires this summer, Pogba will leave and likely return to Juventus.
The majority of the documentary focuses on the crucial turning moment in his career-ending it with the team where he first broke through and signing with another team as a free agent.
Given Pogba’s apparent potential, it may come as a surprise that United is letting him leave for free since they paid a then-record signing price of £89 million to get him.
He won the 2018 World Cup with France following a string of strong performances, but his issues with injuries, inconsistency, and significant variations between club and international performances mean he won’t be greatly missed.
Many believe he joined for business-related rather than football-related reasons, and the glam, flashy documentary and the video it contains do nothing to dispel that belief. They also show real astonishment at his response to the club’s offer.
While on vacation in Miami, Florida on the east coast of America, Pogba is traveling along State Road 5 and talking on the phone with Raiola, the Italian super-agent who passed away in April following a protracted illness.
Raiola said: “Paul, you are in a situation which is quite peculiar. Speaking both in Pogba’s native French and Raiola’s natural Italian. You are clueless. You are clueless.
Did Manchester (United) make a second offer, the 29-year-old then inquired. Yes, Raiola answered. They fervently desire that you remain. The offer does not, in my opinion, represent that. If you want him to remain, don’t make that offer, I advised them.
“I’ll make them see that this time, they have to act differently and put the money on the table if they genuinely want you to remain and want to develop a project around you,” she said.
Pogba responds, “They’re bluffing.” “How can you say that you absolutely want a player and make him no offers?” I’ve never seen that.
Pogba makes a promise to “show Manchester that they made a mistake in delaying to grant me a contract” in one of the documentary’s last segments. And convince other teams that Manchester erred in rejecting my deal.
