Paul Scholes claims Arsenal, Tottenham and Rangers cannot match United

Manchester United Retired Midfielder Paul Scholes claims United are favorites to win the Europa League ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham.

Scholes believes the lack of success ‘hurts’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and that will inspire the Norwegian to succeed.  Red Devils sealed their Europa League last-16 spot with a 4-0 aggregate win over Real Sociedad.

Several British teams are remaining in the competition but, Scholes thinks his former side is much better. He claimed the other British sides do not stand a chance against the United.  Arsenal, Tottenham, and Rangers (British sides) also secured progression to the last-16 stage.

“Man United can win the Europa, not sure about the other (British) teams. Man Utd has the best squad in the competition. This is a great chance for United to win something,” Scholes claimed.

Scholes claimed that the other British clubs think they have a good chance. He said,” Man United are much better than Arsenal and Tottenham.”

He continues to say that Italian football and Spanish football are not good as it used to be.

Solskjaer’s side exited the competition last season via semi-final stage, and Scholes feels the lack of success in cup competitions pains the manager (Solskjear).

However, the 2008 Champions League winner with United highlighted that the team (United) is doing great this season. He believes the Europa League is a brilliant opportunity for the club to create a winning culture.

“You’ve seen them do well to get to second in the league, then fall away. They went top then unfortunately they went on a sticky run and fell away.

“They have got to find that extra quality, big players in big games. If Man Utd want to go to the next level, win titles, win cups – these players need to step up,” Paul said.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Shola Shoretire to become a ‘very good player’ at Manchester United.

“Shola has got some skills, he’s going to make a very good player here,’ Solskjaer said.

The 17-year old became the youngest United player to play in the European league on Thursday night. Shoretire replaced fellow academy graduate Mason Greenwood to break Norman Whiteside’s 39-year-old record by 108 days.
