Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani endured a difficult second season with Old Trafford as the player struggled with a series of fitness issues.

A little about the topic

The Uruguayan footballer has been called a disgrace by Paul Scholes, who questioned his commitment during the 2021-22 season. Edinson Cavani scored just two goals in 20 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United during a difficult campaign for the club. The former PSG player is out of contract next month and it has already been confirmed that the striker will not be offered fresh terms.

What did Scholes say about Edinson Cavani?

The Uruguayan player scored 17 goals during a profitable first season at Old Trafford, making a one-year contract extension seem like a smart move by the club last summer. However, Cavani struggled for regular action during his second campaign due to a combination of injury, loss of form and Ronaldo’s summer arrival.

Club legend Paul Scholes, however, believes that Edinson has not always been fully committed, citing his absence from the squad for the February FA Cup defeat to Middlesbrough as an example. The ex-England international sees Edinson’s plight as emblematic of Man Utd’s poor season overall, in which they finished sixth in the PL.

Paul also doubts whether new head coach Erik ten Hag will get the support he needs from the club’s hierarchy to revive his fortunes. Paul Scholes said that Edinson Cavani, he thinks it was a shame this year, he almost never played. According to Scholes, Cavani pulled out of the Middlesbrough game because he had to travel back from anywhere.

Oddly enough, since that game in Middlesbrough, Paul thinks he’s heard Man Utd have only won five out of 18 games last night or something since then. It was embarrassing, this manager now needs support. – Who will help him? Scholes says the Club at the top is still a bit of a mess, they don’t know.
