The six-time Ballon d’Or winner at the Camp Nou and the all-time leading goalscorer with Manchester City are in the process of fulfilling their respective contracts.
There’s a chance that Aguero and Messi could be reunited at Barcelona
The two Argentines currently mulling over their options, Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, may see Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero linking up at Barcelona next season. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner at the Camp Nou and the all-time leading goalscorer with Manchester City are in the process of fulfilling their respective contracts. Aguero said he will leave Etihad stadium at the end of the season, while Barca are still hoping to tie their talismanic captain on new terms. It could be that the two international colleagues are reunited in Catalonia. Dybala, who plays alongside Aguero and Messi when representing his country, said: “Aguero is a special character. People know what he is like. He is a phenomenon on and off the pitch, and there is no question. Barcelona? He has a good relationship with everyone, especially with Leo Messi.”
Dybala is confident that for Messi it will be unique for his career to stay at Barca
The Juventus forward added about Messi’s future: “I believe it will be unique for his career to stay at Barcelona, whether Aguero goes or not.” Ever since the all-time great made a push for the exits at Barcelona in the summer of 2020, speculation has raged about his next move. Messi was persuaded to stay where he was and could still commit himself to another lucrative contract, but various alternative directions were discussed for him. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are considered the most likely landing spots for the mercurial 33-year-old, but a move to Italy has been addressed in the past. Inter have never made a secret of their interest in Messi, while there was once talk of Juventus entering the running.
Dybala said of those rumours: “There was some talk about the possible arrival of Messi to Juventus, but it was known that it would be challenging.”
