Paulo Dybala was scouted by Milan and Inter, the PL clubs were linked, but the player is heading to the eternal city.

Paulo Dybala’s contract details

The Argentine footballer signed a free transfer for the Giallorossi, while the Argentina international, after months of speculation about his future, decided to contact Mourinho at the Stadio Olimpico. The Argentine’s seven-year career at the Bianconeri ended when his contract expired in June, but he will now remain in Italy with Roma.

Giallorossi supporters will be hoping Paulo can take Jose Mourinho’s side to the next level in 2022-23, with the Portuguese head coach eager to get the club back into the Champions League after last season’s Europa League success.

The Argentine striker has agreed to a three-year deal at Stadio Olimpico that will ensure he remains a Giallorossi player until the summer of 2025. Paulo Dybala is expected to earn around €6m a year in salary.

A little about the topic

The Argentine will wear No.21 at Roma, the same number he had at the Bianconeri. Paulo Dybalo was offered the number 10, but the player turned it down out of respect for club legend Francesco Totti. Giallorossi new signing Matic took on No.21 for the upcoming season, but will now switch to No.8 instead.

Paulo was associated with a host of top clubs at the start of the year, including the PL quartet the Gunners, the Blues, the Red Devils and the Spurs. Bayern Munich, PSG, Barcelona, Milan and Inter have also been associated with Paulo Dybala, but Jose managed to convince him that the Giallorossi was the best place to continue his career.

Roma’s head coach has reportedly played a key role in brokering a deal for Paulo, who is expected to step onto the rails of his new club when they open their 2022-23 campaign against Salernitana on 14 August.

Will Roma sign other players?

Paulo followed Zeki Celik, Nemanja Matic and Mile Svilar as the Giallorossi’s fourth summer signing, while the likes of Cengiz Under, Alessandro Florenzi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all left the club.

Jose acknowledged that further investment would be needed for his side to break into the top four of Serie A and compete for the Europa League, with Paulo unlikely to be the last man through the doors of Stadio Olimpico.

There is information that Roma’s head coach is prioritizing a new winger and while Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes and Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi have both been linked, Jose has instructed club officials for the first time to look into a possible deal for Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha. The Giallorossi are also said to be chasing the signing of the Spanish Isco player, who left Real Madrid last month but faces competition from Sevilla.
