Pearce hinted that 28-year-old Lingard could still join West Ham in January, claiming the Man Utd star holds all the cards.

Jesse Lingard can make a U-turn

Jesse Lingard returned to the Utd in June after a successful six-month loan at West Ham, scoring nine goals in 16 Premier League games to help the Moyes’ side qualify for the Europa League. David Moyes openly admitted that the hammers were eager to sign the 28-year-old to a permanent deal, but they failed to do so before the summer term, and his assistant suggested that the midfielder made the wrong choice over his future.

Stuart Pearce believes Jesse Lingard may end up making a U-turn when the transfer market reopens due to his considerable talent being wasted at Old Trafford. West Ham coach said Jesse missed the opportunity to leave the Utd during this transfer window. Jesse may reconsider his position in January and decide if it is possible to move to clubs. He’s holding cards, Lingard.

The most important thing for him at the moment is his football. Jesse Lingard plays an odd game for the Utd and also plays very well for England – and these England appearances could help him get into the Utd. Pearce thinks he’s too good to be out of the game and at an age where he should be playing.

A little about the topic

Jesse Lingard has played 211 games in all competitions for the Utd since his debut in 2011, scoring 33 goals as well as setting 20 more for his teammates. However, England’s only appearance on the Solskjaer’s side so far has been on the bench, and is currently behind the likes of Pogba, Fred and Fernandes in pecking order of midfield.

Jesse was selected for Southgate’s latest Three Lions squad despite not having regular minutes at club level, and scored twice in a 4-0 World Cup qualifier over Andorra over the weekend to send a statement ahead of his return to Old Trafford.

He will hope to earn a spot with Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s for a home fix against Newcastle on Sunday, but if he continues to play the role, West Ham could be an attractive option again, especially given the fact that he’s now less than 10 months from his contract expiration.
