Lionel Messi is out of contract at the end of the season. And it remains to be seen if he will agree to a new deal after trying to leave the club this summer.
Pedri wants to play alongside Leo Messi for many years
Barcelona midfielder Pedri is hoping Lionel Messi will be his teammate for “many years” amid frenzied speculation about his future at Camp Nou. Lionel Messi is out of contract at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen if he will agree to a new deal after trying to leave the club this summer. Nonetheless, Joan Laporta’s election as Barcelona’s new president gave new impetus to the club’s efforts to hang on to the forward, with Pedri among a group of new Barca youngsters looking to play alongside the six-time Ballon d’Or winner for as long as possible. Pedri admits he couldn’t believe his eyes when he joined Messi in his first training session at Barca last year.
Playing with the Argentine is easy for his teammates
The summer signing from Las Palmas told reporters: “The first day I saw Messi, I thought it was a lie. When I was next to Messi, I was very shocked to see him. It was like being on television or in a video game. I hardly believed in it. Playing with Messi is easy because when you give it to him, you know that things will happen. And this is what I try to do, give it to them the best positions so that it is most beneficial for the team”. About the future of Messi, Pedri added: “I hope I can be with him for several years. It would be great if I could continue to enjoy playing with Messi and learn many things alongside him.”
