‘Tournament kings will destroy us’ – Pep forbids thinking about 1/4 final
The City head coach spoke about the team’s chances in the Champions League. Despite the win against Real Madrid in Madrid, Pep is careful and forbids thinking about 1/4 final. Guardiola demands full concentration in the return match with Real.
Josep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, spoke about the expectation of the return match of the Eighth-Final of the Champions League, in which his team will host Real Madrid.
Recall that the first confrontation between these teams in Madrid, which was still held before the announcement of the break due to the coronavirus pandemic, the English team won 2: 1 and now has a better chance of reaching the ¼-final.
Pep Guardiola doesn’t think so:
“We have no advantage. It’s always like that. First of all, we have to think about the game against Madrid and only then consider the prospects in the 1/4 final. If we start thinking early in the next round, the kings of the tournament will destroy us. I know how to play.”
The return match between Manchester City and Real Madrid will take place on August 7 at the Etihad. The winner of this pair will meet the best of the Juventus-Lyon pair in the final. The Champions League will be held in Portugal in the format of “Eight Final” from this stage.
