Pep Guardiola has been named manager of the Premier League season for 2020-21 after leading Man City to yet another title triumph.
Pep Guardiola made history this season
The Blues regained domestic dominance in the canter after overcoming a slow start to hit their stride around the turn of the year, with a 12-point lead held over the racing pack as they passed the finishing stance. Pep Guardiola has now captured three top crowns in the space of four years, with the Catalan coach once again confirming his position as one of the very best in the business. Opening their selection for the prestigious prize, the Premier League announced on its official website that Pep Guardiola is winning the award for the third time in his managerial career, also claiming it in his two previous title campaigns, 2017-18 and 2018-19. The Spaniard made history this season as his Man City side became the first team to win the title after being as low as eighth on Christmas Day, organizing a 15-match winning run to take the PL Trophy back from Liverpool. Pep matches the three Manager of the Season awards earned by Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger, and only Sir Alex Ferguson has won it more times, with 11. These three are also the only managers in PL history to match Pep Guardiola’s three title wins.
Guardiola was the obvious choice
Having restored City to the tallest of perches, Pep was the obvious choice to pop the top trainer gong. However, others caught our eye in 2020-21 when West Ham, Leeds United, Man Utd and Leicester saw their efforts being recognized. The Premier League added on those that Pep Guardiola ended up beating fellow nominees David Moyes, Marcelo Bielsa, Ole Gunnar and Brendan Rodgers for the season award after public votes were combined with those of a group of football experts to decide the winner. He becomes the third winner of the 2020-21 season at Manchester City after Ruben Dias was named EA SPORTS Player of the Season and Liam Delap was named PL2 Player of the Season.
