After Manchester City opened up a three-point advantage over their championship rivals at the top of the Premier League, Pep Guardiola launched a spectacular attack on Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola watched Manchester City extend their Premier League championship lead before unleashing a stunning assault on Liverpool, stating that ‘everyone supports the Reds’ as the two sides battled for the crown.
City and Jurgen Klopp’s team are embroiled in a two-horse race for the league title, with City aiming to retain the title they won in style last season. The Reds, on the other hand, have been relentless in their pursuit of them since the turn of the year, eating up a 14-point difference.
Liverpool surrendered vital points after being held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham on Saturday night. On the other hand, City took full advantage by smashing Newcastle 5-0 at the Etihad. To begin and end the thrashing against the Magpies, Raheem Sterling scored twice, with Aymeric Laporte, Rodri, and Phil Foden scoring in between. With just three games remaining, City has opened up a three-point advantage over Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.
Guardiola, however, was not pleased with his side’s early lead in the championship battle, and in a fiery post-match interview, he took a shocking jab at Liverpool’s recent past, stressing their agonizing 30-year title drought.
“Everyone in this nation supports Liverpool, the media, and everyone,” he said. “Of course, since Liverpool has a wonderful history behind them in European competition – not Premier Leagues, because they haven’t won one in 30 years – but it’s not an issue at all.”
“The circumstances are what they are. We need nine points or perhaps six points right now, depending on how the next two games play out in terms of goal differential, but Wednesday is the actual, true final for us. We’ll go all out to win there. Our fate is in our control, which is significant. We must examine ourselves. Nothing changes whether you have one or three points. It’s something we have to do.”
