Carabao Cup three times in a row is a big success admits Pep Guardiola. Manchester City fans have defended the League Cup trophy tonight as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the final at Wembley in London.

Man City wins Carabao Cup third times in a row

The City head coach Guardiola welcomed his victory at the Manchester City for Carabao Cup, as the club won a trophy for the third season, defeating Aston Villa on Sunday. Sergio Aguero hit the opening for City at Wembley, after which Rodri doubled their lead 10 minutes later to put Pep in charge of the team. After that, Mbwana Samatta rolled away just before the half-time to keep Villa on the run and provide an uncomfortable second half for Man City. But despite some fierce attack, City continued its rivals in the bay to take the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 victory. And laying hands on the trophy in 2018 and 2019, Guardiola was delighted with this hat-trick of triumphs in a historically understated competition.

This game was amazing

“Three times in a row is a great success. This sequence is incredible,” he told journalists after the final whistle. “It was amazing. We fought in the first minutes and the last. They had two clear chances in the early minutes, but we played very well, especially in the second half. “Sunday’s victory goes hot on the heels of City’s return victory at the Bernabeu due to Los Blancos, which puts the Premier League club in a strong position to qualify for the last 16 Champions League. As the league title is practically out of their hands, Guardiola preferred to concentrate on trophies for which his accusations remained on the run or which they dropped, since he singled out Phil Foden for special praise after the young player named the man of the Wembley match.

Guardiola’s eighth title

“The game was good. Phil was clinical. A great success, our second title of the season with Community Shield, it’s so nice,” he added. “We have won a lot. I tried when we arrive, every match we play, we try to win it, every game we are trying to win the competition, and to win here three times in a row is great.” This latest Carabao Cup marked Pep’s eighth title since taking the City in 2016, while the club is still active both in the Champions League and in Football Association Cup and – mathematically at least – not yet out of the trophy race. On Wednesday, City visits Sheffield in the fifth round of the FA Cup before heading to Old Trafford next Sunday to receive United rivals.
