England midfielder, Phil Foden will miss the start of City’s Premier League title defense with a foot injury he picked up during the EURO 2020.

Phil Foden was an instrumental player of City throughout the successful 2020/21 Premier League season and was subsequently awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year for his efforts.
The England international notched nine goals and five assists in 28 Premier League appearances last term and ended the season as a key component of Guardiola’s ideal starting XI.
The versatile attacking talent later impressed for England at the European Championships although he picked up a foot injury on international duty.
Drawing from a report by James Ducker, Foden “over flexed a foot” during an England training session before the final and the unusual nature of the injury has led to City’s medical staff taking a cautious approach regarding the player’s rehabilitation.
The 21-year-old is likely to miss City’s first three league games against Tottenham Hotspurs, Norwich City and Arsenal. Additionally, the midfield,er is also a doubt for England’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against Hungary in September.
Consequently, it could mean his first Premier League match of the season could be on 11th September against Leicester City.
Throughout the previous campaign, Phil Foden established himself as a key member of the Manchester City squad due to his versatility and sheer ability in both a positional and attacking sense and his absence at the start of the season will be a key loss.
However, his absence will provide Jack Grealish with the perfect chance to stamp his mark on the first-team and become a crucial player during the first few weeks.
