Pique gets into the scandal all over again
Pique gets into the scandal all over again
The situation
Gerard Pique contacted Luis Rubiales to find out how he could take over the vacant place left by Reus in Segunda B in 2019 , according to El Confidential. He finally got hold of it and was framed by geographical distribution in the Catalan group. The following year, with the pandemic and the remodeling of non-professional football, the Barcelona player contacted the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation again to suggest the group that Andorra should go to. It should be remembered that COVID-19 and the changes in the category caused Second B to be divided into ten subgroups of ten, which were later mixed again in a promotion, intermediate and relegation phase. Each of these subgroups was formed by geographical distribution, although some Autonomous Communities had more than ten teams and had to be arranged in a different way . That’s when Pique came in and called Rubiales to propose an easier group for his Andorra: “How are you, Rubi? I hope all is well, although I imagine that you are involved with all this COVID. I have seen that a match has been postponed for moving up from Third to Second B. All this is a drama and it looks like we are going to be around for a while until it disappears. I just wanted to ask you if you already have an idea of how the teams are going to be distributed in the different groups of Second B for the next year and if you already knew where Andorra will be placed”.
Rubiales responds in ‘Everything is a Lie’
The president of the RFEF has already responded to the controversy of Andorra in the Cuatro program ‘Todo es Mentira’: “All the clubs ask to have simpler groups. It is one more call. What you have to see is how the groups and where Andorra competed was very difficult. If they call it is because they pick up the phone. We are close people and football people. In the end, the FEF makes decisions”.
