Andrea Pirlo focuses on the current Serie A season as he claims they need to exert pressure on leaders Inter Milan.
Juventus crashed out of UEFA Champions League and lies third 10 points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan. Pirlo revealed he is happy Cristiano Ronaldo still has a year left in his contract.
“For now we have not thought about it. Cristiano still has a year left on his contract with us and we are happy about that,” Pirlo said.
“We’re extremely focused on this end of the season. He has already scored a lot of goals and is beyond discussion,” he insisted.
Juventus will face 16th placed Benevento on Sunday and Pirlo has acknowledged the game as fundamental for Juve’s season. Pirlo believes his side can still hold on to the Serie A silverware despite the 10 points gap.
“It’s an important match because it comes just before the international break. It’s a fundamental game for our season,” Pirlo said.
“We are facing a team that is not going through a good period at the moment, but knows how to express themselves on the pitch and I know the coach, Filippo Inzaghi, whom I always follow with affection. He is doing a good job and I have great respect for him.”
“We have to win game after game, bring home the three points, and put pressure on Inter,” he claimed.
Reports claimed that Ronaldo could leave after Juventus exited the Champions league with Zinedine Zidane opening the door for him. On Monday, Real Madrid admitting a comeback is “possible” for the Portuguese striker.
The players’ association named Ronaldo as the best player in Italy on Friday and he has shared his celebration on Instagram. He promised, “the whole Juventus universe that we will continue to work until the last day because we can still, all together, have reasons to celebrate this season.”
