Paul Ince has urged Manchester United to step up their pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino as he believes the Argentine is ‘the man’ to turn the club around.

United have shown limited improvement since German boss Ralf Rangnick replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis earlier this season.

After watching United fall to a dismal 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford to Wolved, Ince reiterated his belief that while problems are deep-rooted at Old Trafford, Pochettino has the cache to transform the club.

He said, “problems will not be solved in a year. Maybe two years. When I watched Chelsea-Liverpool I was just dreaming that I could see Man United playing like that one day. It was an unbelievable standard of football”.

“I thought (Mauricio) Pochettino was the man. I’ve always clamored for him to be the man. He still might be the man if PSG doesn’t win the Champions League. But whoever the man is has to have a four-year project. This team needs investment”.

“The recruitment has been poor over so many, many years. It needs the right man, with the right philosophy and the right project to take this club forward”.

“You can’t have a manager in the next season. And if things aren’t going well after five months – we start booing him – it ain’t gonna work”.

Additionally, it’s being rumored that Pochettino is being considered on a shortlist of three by United as they search for their next permanent boss.

Rangnick, who finds himself under pressure for his 4-2-2-2 system right now, is not believed to be on it but Pochettino is.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers are the others being considered by United’s hierarchy.
