Allegations of Marriage Fraud and Religious Conversion

A female police constable posted at the Shivkuti police station in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has made serious allegations against Imran Khan, the brother of IPL cricket player Mohsin Khan. In a complaint filed on Monday, June 5, the police officer accused Imran Khan of engaging in “love jihad” tactics. She claimed that Imran Khan pretended to adopt Buddhism and married her, but later pressured her to convert to Islam.

Additionally, she accused Imran Khan of coercing her into having sexual relations with his father and brother. The accused, Mohsin Khan, is a renowned fast bowler who represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and plays for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.

The victim, hailing from Varanasi, has released a video message, seeking help from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In the video, she recounts her initial struggle to file a complaint against her husband and his family.

Despite eventually registering a case against Imran Khan on February 23, 2023, the Prayagraj police did not invoke the stringent sections of the SC/ST Act, and the names of Imran’s father and brother were allegedly omitted from the FIR due to their influence and prominence.

Narrating her traumatic experience, the victim revealed that she met Imran Khan in 2016 during police training in Moradabad. Imran, who was also a police officer, lured her into a romantic relationship. In 2018, they got married under the Special Marriage Act, with Imran claiming to have converted to Buddhism.

However, after their marriage, Imran started pressuring her to convert to Islam and changed her name to Zaira Banu. The victim alleges that Imran continued to visit mosques for prayers despite his conversion to Buddhism, and even took her to mosques in Ajmer and Barabanki.

Mohsin Khan plays for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and has been their frontline bowler for two years now. After sustaining an injury earlier this year, he made a comeback for the team and a decisive match against Mumbai Indians at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, Lucknow.
